I did the list of what I have to do this year and already feel overwhelmed, won’t lie. I have to get Quest out this year, but I won’t push to have it out for the book events. People don’t tend to buy the second book unless they are already a fan, so I will not worry about it, just make sure it’s out. I have to also build a shed this year. It has to be done; we need it not just for an office for me to record in, but also for storage. So yeah. Those are the big things next to finishing the full draft of Camp Disaster.
Another side thing I plan on doing for the blog is “The TBR pile”. I have been depressed and not reading much. I want to work on my to-be-read-pile and get it at least out of my room. I am not one really to have one, not until about two/three years ago. So, I want to work on it and share reviews of the ones I do like. The ones I don’t like will be quietly put into the donation bag. That will come in next month.
Pop culture Corner: Goodbye, Deku.
I came across My Hero Academia when I was still working as a librarian. I had heard about the first season, and I love my superheroes, so I had to find out if I would like it. So, I sat down at my desk in the basement area for the staff during lunch and hit play.
It did not take long at all for me to fall in love with Deku. I cried when All Might told him he could be a hero too. It struck a chord with me. I have never had anyone (mom doesn’t count lol) that I looked up to as a mentor and tell me that. That I could make it as an author. All this time, as many of the authors I used to look up to have become political spewers talking on subjects they don’t know about, it breaks my heart a little to know I’ll never have that. I had already read the ending of the manga, but watching the final anime episode hit different as I had watched it before I started reading it. To hear “Hero too” play, as well as Deku becoming Iron Man, it all was just amazing. And of course, after the credits, they signed off as only way it should.
I will miss MHA. I really only have Spyxfamily now. At some point I’ll return to One Piece, just when is sadly up in the air at the moment.
It is an amazing series, and if you are not happy with the current run of superhero movies (I am certainly not), then I highly recommend My Hero Academia and the spinoff, MHA Vigilantes.
This will always be one of my favorites, next to Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, and Fullmetal Alchemist. It has all the action and heart you’d ever want from a Shōnen manga/anime.
Thank you, Deku.
